意味地面に耳をつけておけば、情報が得られます。つまり「すぐにある情報が得られるようにしておく」という意味になります。
例文I don't know anyone at this point who is interested in teaching Japanese, but I will keep my ear to the ground and if anybody pops up, I'll let you know.
